ABSTRACT: This document contains the view of Telcordia on generic requirements for transmitting asynchronous voiceband data to Customer Premises
Equipment (CPE) from the CPE's serving Stored Program Control switching System (SPCS). Specifically, it provides requirements for data
transmission in both the on-hook and off-hook states. This data transmission interface is applicable to a variety of services, such as
CLASS calling information delivery features. Examples of services using this data transmission interface are Calling Number Delivery
(CND), Calling Identity Delivery on Call Waiting (CIDCW), and Calling Name Delivery (CNAM). This issue introduces new requirements that
address the needs of On-hook Data Transmission without Power Ringing. These requirements are specific to Integrated Digital Loop
Carrier (IDLC) systems that use dynamic timeslot assignment or semi-permanent (nailed up) connections.
This issue also introduces a new data transmission format (in addition to the existing SDMF and MDMF), the Generic Data Message
Format (GDMF), which allows the transmission of information not created by the SPCS to the customer. The SPCS in this case is only
required to perform a transport function by delivering the received data payload (e.g., from a server) in a GDMF "envelope" to the
customer. Existing requirements are clarified and new ones are added to better describe DTMF receiver functionality during off-hook
data transmission.
