ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: This document is a comprehensive source of the Telcordia view of generic requirements and objectives for a packet switching network
based on the typical needs of a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC). A LEC uses packet networks to provide intraLATA (Local Access and
Transport Area) packet switching services and access to interLATA and international data carriers, as well as access to other data
networks.
This document serves as a compendium of expected characteristics and features of packet networks and describes the features and
functions of a Public Packet Switched Network (PPSN) at the customer interface, within a PPSN, and at the interface between a PPSN and
other networks. Other activities necessary for the administration of the network are also specified and the need to maintain
compatibility among new and existing equipment is addressed. The scope of the document includes packet-mode bearer services for
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). In particular the interface sections for X.25, X.75, and X.75' provide ISDN packet-mode
requirements.
