ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: This document presents the view of Telcordia on generic requirements for surge protectors on coaxial drop cable service customer
premises. The generic requirements are intended to promote reliable and safe performance of surge protectors at the customer's
termination of coaxial lines in a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) network environment. The surge protectors, installed in a Network
Interface Device (NID) or similar closure, help limit the magnitude of unwanted surge voltages on the outside plant that may reach
terminal equipment. These unwanted surge voltages may arise, for example, from the effects of lightning or powerline faults.
This document proposes generic requirements that a coaxial surge protector shall have to avoid interference with the operation of
telecommunication networks and to provide voltage limiting that is compatible with telecommunication networks.
When using GR-2908, you may need to refer to GR-63, SR-NWT-2759, GR-49, GR-78, GR-1252, GR-1503, ANSI/NFPA
