ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: Presently, the software generic of a Network Element (NE) is updated by dispatching a technician to the site of the NE to provide the
necessary manual initiation and control. This manual procedure is undesirable as technician dispatch is labor intensive and human
intervention is error prone. The present mode of operation is not only expensive but is also time consuming, thereby increasing the
cost of installing, and prolonging the time-to-value of new software generics. The goal is to streamline the software update process
by reducing or eliminating technician dispatch as well as on-site human intervention. Several documents are being published to
accomplish this goal.
This Generic Requirements (GR) document presents the view of Telcordia on a functional description of, and generic criteria for,
software inventory that plays a vital role in tracking software generics received from suppliers and orchestrating software generics
downloaded to NEs.
When using GR-2911, you may need to refer to GR-472. You may also want to refer to SR-2676.
