ABSTRACT: Issue 2 of GR-2916, Generic Requirements for a 5 Pin Protector Block Assembly, which replaces Issue 1, identifies proposed technical generic requirements for protector block assemblies equipped with protector units. In the view of Telcordia, meeting these criteria will give a telecommunications service provider a quality of service capability consistent with service objectives for telephone service and high-speed data networks.

The information in the criteria may be useful to anyone engaged in the manufacture of protector block assemblies intended for connection in typical telecommunications service provider facilities and/or equipment, and to those purchasing, operating, or using such equipment. The criteria and test circuits are used to analyze equipment with respect to the following:

• Compatibility with telecommunications service provider facilities
• Potential safety hazards
• Performance and transmission characteristics
• Susceptibility to failure under environmental conditions.
