ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: A power passing tap is a coaxial element that delivers Radio Frequency (RF) and power signals from a coaxial cable network to
subscriber premises. In a typical broadband coaxial system, power is not delivered to the subscriber's premises. However, in the
coaxial distribution for video and telephony services, power will be delivered to the Network Interface Device (NID). The NID serves
as a receiver, divider, and demodulator for the video and telecommunications signals, respectively. In order to perform these
functions, power must be delivered by the tap to the drop. This power passing tap supplies both power and RF to the subscriber drop.
This document provides the Telcordia view of generic requirements for power passing taps under normal operations and fault
conditions.
