ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: To help provide protection for Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive (ESDS) circuit board (card) assemblies (circuit packs) or components
during handling, shipping, and storage, minimum requirements for Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)-protective chairs and carts are
required. The transient energy that may be dissipated by personnel or equipment on circuit card assemblies can be minimized by
controlling the surface resistance and the volume resistivity of ESD-protective chair and cart surfaces. To minimize frictional or
triboelectric charging of circuit card assemblies during handling, all chair and cart surfaces should be static dissipative and
grounded. Chairs and carts must also meet certain requirements regarding mechanical, chemical, and environmental properties, and must
have other features regarding their utility.
This document states the Telcordia view of minimum generic requirements for ESD-protective chairs and carts used during the circuit
pack handling, shipment, storage, and field use.
The document defines certain minimum generic electrostatic, mechanical, environmental and chemical requirements that a chair or cart
shall incorporate to be considered for use.
