ABSTRACT: This document describes the view of Telcordia on switching and signaling generic requirements for Local Number Portability (LNP). The scope of the LNP capability described here includes Local Service Provider Portability (LSPP) without rate center changes, Location Portability without rate center change, LSPP with rate center change, and Location Portability with rate center change.

This document is written so as to distinguish those requirements needed to support LSPP and Location Portability when porting within a rate center from requirements to support porting outside a rate center. Sections 1-7 address portability within a rate center and Section 8 addresses portability outside a rate center. The document also includes requirements for providing an optional query following a release message from the donor switch, known in industry as Query on Release.
