ABSTRACT: GR-2939, SPCS/Server Generic Requirements for the Next Generation of Analog Display Services Interface (ADSI++), describes the Telcordia view of generic requirements for the next generation interface and associated communications protocol for bidirectional transmission of data between a Stored Program Controlled System (SPCS), i.e., a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) switching system, or other computer-based server, and an Analog Display Services Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The data transmission occurs over the voice path consisting of an analog loop facility between the customer's premises and a serving local SPCS. Data transmission can also occur between an Analog Display Services CPE and a host computer server via switched voice-grade facilities of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

This document provides a next generation of this generic Analog Display Services Interface (ADSI++) between an Analog Display Services CPE and an SPCS. Developers of various features on host computers will find these generic requirements to be useful guidelines for the implementation of an interface to permit host computer servers to communicate with next generation Analog Display Services CPE. SPCS generic requirements and information that are also applicable as useful host computer Server guidelines for implementing an ADSI will contain the phrase "SPSC/Server" or "SPCS and other Servers."

This ADSI++ description extends the existing interface for transmission of display data for caller identification and related features described in GR-30, and in SR-TSV-002476.

Requirements are backward-compatible with, contain, and build on those for the original version ADSI protocol and functionality described in GR-1273. The Telcordia view of the associated CPE compatibility guidelines for the ADSI++ are provided in SR-4721. Because GR-2939, its ILR, and SR-4721 cross-reference each other extensively, all three documents must be ordered together to ensure a complete understanding of both ends of the ADSI+ capabilities and communications protocol. At this time, GR-2939 and SR-4721 are not part of the "ADSI Family of Requirements," FR-12. Those only interested in ADSI capabilities should order FR-12.

Issue 2 provides the Telcordia view of generic requirements for the Stored Program Control (SPCS) Server end capabilities of the next generation of the Analog Display Services Interface (ADSI++). This document provides the requirements for new ADSI++ communications parameters between the SPCS Server and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). Also in this issue, new ADSI++ requirements support the ADSI++ Forms/message Management Capability defined in detail in SR-4721. This closes the major open issue from GR-2939-ILR, Issue 1, leaving only a minor issue regarding the two-way Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) capability.

This GR also includes one or more Issue List Reports (ILRs) that details open or closed technical issues in the main document. The ILR(s) are automatically sent free of charge to the GR document purchaser.
