ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: Coaxial drop cables are constructed per GR-1398, Generic Requirements for Coaxial Drop Cable, with a copper-clad steel
center conductor insulated with a suitable dielectric material. Solid copper conductor may also be used for special applications, when
required. The insulation may be solid or expanded (foamed). The coaxial drop(s) are intended to be used for two-way services for
delivery of Plain Old Telephone Services (POTS) and video (both analog and compressed digital) to the home. In addition, high-speed
digital signals for T1, T1C, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), etc. can also be transmitted through the coaxial drops.
This document details the Telcordia view of generic requirements for Hybrid Coaxial Drop/Twisted Pair Cable intended for buried
applications. The GR covers construction, material, physical, mechanical, and electrical requirements of composite coaxial drop and
twisted pair wires. The hybrid construction consists of at least one coaxial drop of 59, 6, 7, or 11 series and at least one pair of
twisted conductors of 22 American Wire Gauge (AWG).
Both are laid up parallel and adjacent within a jacket having a figure eight construction.
