ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: This document replaces GR-2963, Issue 2.
This document provides the view of Telcordia on the proposed software management generic requirements applicable to a Network
Element (NE) or a Network System (NS). Configuration Management is one of the five functional categories of the Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) management as described in ITU-T Rec.X.730 ISO/IEC 10164-1. Software Management, a subset of the Configuration
Management category, is an ongoing network management activity that assists telecommunications carriers in assuring that the correct
versions of application software are distributed, downloaded, installed, verified, and remotely activated in NEs. The Software
Management functional requirements previously defined in Section 6.7 of GR-472, Network Element Configuration Management,
along with related requirements from GR-2933, System Software Release Alterations, were combined to form this document. The
result is a consistent integrated set of requirements applicable to all classes of NEs (both switching and transport) and NS's.
