ABSTRACT: This document, GR-2986, "Business Group-to-Business Group and Business Group-to-CPE Networking Using ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI) Generic Requirements," describes the switching and signaling procedures for the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) side of an ISDN PRI terminating in an ISDN Basic Business Group (BBG-I) that connects to PRI Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). It also describes the switching and signaling procedures for the LEC side of an ISDN PRI terminating in a BBG-I that connects to another LEC switch provided BBG-I. As defined in TR-TSY-000849, BBG-Is may include ISDN Basic Rate Interfaces (BRIs), non-ISDN lines, and non-ISDN private facilities, where all members of the BBG-I must be served by a single switch.

This document extends the BBG-I membership to include ISDN PRIs that either interconnect a BBG-I with a PRI CPE (e.g., PBX) or two BBG-Is. A PRI interconnecting a PRI CPE with a BBG-I is called a PriVate Access (PVA) PRI and is considered similar to a line in the BBG-I. A PRI interconnecting two BBG-Is, on the other hand, is called a Business Group Networking (BGN) PRI, and is considered an ISDN private facility that is a member of the BBG-I. In this context, the following capabilities are addressed:

1) for PVA PRIs: Call Control, Calling Number Identification Services, Calling Name Identification Services, Message Waiting Services, Message Waiting Indicator, Two B-Channel Transfer, and Call Deflection; 2)for BGN PRIs: Call Control, calling Number Identification Services, and Calling Name Identification Services. It is important to note that BGN PRIs may operate using network-side procedures or user side procedures ("generic" user-side requirements are defined in GR-2985, "Common User-Side Procedures for ISDN PRI Generic Requirements").
