ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: This document states the view of Telcordia on the proposed generic requirements for the Ingress Switch (IS) network element.
This GR offers the Telcordia view on the functionalities needed at IS's to support off-load of Internet access traffic in the Public
Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
The IS (i.e. class 5 or tandem switch) is an existing element of the PSTN that will perform some new or expanded functions on an
Internet off-load architecture. Specifically, the IS will identify originating Internet access calls and route them off the PSTN, thus
bypassing Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) tandem switches, interoffice trunk groups, and the Egress Switches (ES's) currently serving
Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
