ABSTRACT: This Generic Requirements document (GR) sets forth the Telcordia view of proposed generic requirements for the operations interface between an integrated SONET/ATM Network Management System (NMS) and a hybrid SONET/ATM Element Management System (EMS). Management information across this interface may be used to manage SONET Network Elements (NEs), ATM transport NEs, and/or hybrid SONET/ATM NEs.

The interface will support management of flexible subnetwork transport architectures that are based on pure SONET, pure ATM (VP layer), and/or combined SONET/ATM traffic flows. The Operations functionality addressed in this document focuses on Configuration management and Fault Management.
