ABSTRACT: GR-3012, Generic Requirements for Network Interconnection Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) Link Monitoring System (LMS) Automatic Message Accounting (AMA), reflects the view of Telcordia and its funding clients with respect to the Automatic Message Accounting (AMA) data generation generic requirements for a Common Channel Signaling (CCS) Link Monitoring System (LMS).

These requirements for LMS-based AMA are driven by the need to expand usage measurement capabilities beyond what is available in traditional switch-based AMA. LMS-based AMA may be more responsive than switch-based AMA to the expanded and fluctuating interconnection requirements of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (TA96) as interpreted by FCC and state regulatory commissions.

Issue 2 adds requirements for two additional areas of usage recording related to the LMS. The first is the capability to record outgoing calls on a Connecting Network Access (CNA) trunk group. The second is the capability to record a single record for calls that transit a tandem switch. These capabilities are beyond the current capabilities of most circuit switches.
