ABSTRACT: GR-3102, sets forth the Telcordia Technologies view of proposed requirements for an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Network Management System (NMS). The focus is to identify NMS functions that may be used to manage flexible subnetwork transport and switching architectures based on ATM Virtual Path (VP) and Virtual Channel (VC) layers. The support architectures may involve ATM switching and access concentration NEs. These requirements can be combined with other NMS requirements, e.g., those for hybrid SONET/ATM networks, and pure SONET networks, which are covered in separate GRs, to create an ensemble of requirements for a multi domain NMS.

This document addresses management of ATM networks from the perspective of an NMS. These networks may be used to support a variety of services, from simple point-to-point Cell Relay to Switched Virtual Connections (SVCs).

The functional requirements in this GR are organized in accordance with the Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) framework. The ATM NMS performs primarily Network Management Layer (NML) functions. The core operations functionality covered in this document are grouped into six functional categories: Configuration, Management, Fault Management, Performance Management, Security Management, and Accounting Management. In addition, this document also addresses, at a high level, standard interfaces to the NMS as well as common system requirements.
