ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: GR-3159 contains the Telcordia view of proposed generic requirements for non-wooden utility poles including material information,
functional performance criteria, technical background, and general engineering design information. GR-3159 is designed to cover
Fiber-Reinforced Composite (FRC), concrete, steel and hybrid material pole structures.
This document provides functional performance and materials criteria to help ensure that the non-wood poles supplied to the
communications industry (or attached to by a communications company under a joint use agreement) are of sufficient and necessary
quality and reliability to avoid premature field failures or problems over their expected lifetime.
Issue 2 of GR-3159 contains an expanded scope covering all non-wood pole structures used for supporting communications facilities.
Additionally, Issue 2 contains:
- Extensive updates to the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Management System (QMS) processes that are necessary to provide
high quality and reliable poles.
- A revised Section 7 containing new documentation, packaging and labeling criteria
- Updated QMS criteria in Section 8 covering the critical steps of pole manufacture.
Issue 2 of GR-3159, Generic Requirements for Fiber-Reinforced Composite (FRC), Concrete, and Steel Utility Poles, replaces Issue
1.
When using GR-3159, you may want to refer to GR-60, GR-180, GR-209, GR-487, GR-839, SR-1421, and various
industry standards.
