ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: GR-321 replaces TR-NPL-000321, Issue 1, April 1989, but contains NO TECHNICAL CHANGES from that original document. It has been issued
strictly to conform with the new Telcordia Technologies document format and GR process, and carries a new issue number and date.
A Digital Signal Cross-Connect (DSX) frame is a centralized termination point for digital equipment at a particular digital signal
rate. A DSX frame must have the capability to provide: rearrangeable connections between any two equipment terminations or appearances;
bridged access, whereby equipment can be connected in parallel with a digital signal path; and series access, whereby a digital signal
path can be split. These capabilities enable a DSX frame to provide several operational functions, including equipment interconnection,
test access, and patching.
This Generic Requirements document (GR) describes the generic technical requirements for a manually operated DSX system that, if
met, will satisfy operational requirements for a typical service provider. Information is provided on the DSX bay, frame, network, and
system requirements rather than detailed information on specific hardware. Included are functional characteristics, operational
criteria, and mechanical and electrical requirements for manual DSX Systems used with DS1 (1.544 Mbps), DS1C (3.152 Mbps), and DS2
(6.312 Mbps).
The generic requirements detailed in this document are in addition to those in GR-320-CORE, Fundamental Generic Requirements
for Metallic Digital Signal Cross-Connect Systems DSX-1, -1C, -2, -3.
