ABSTRACT:
This Generic Requirements (GR) document provides the view of Telcordia on the proposed memory administration generic requirements that pertain to the Configuration Management (CM) functions in a Network Element (NE) or a Network System (NS). Specifically, Configuration Management in NEs or NS's refers to adding, altering, deleting, and querying data stored in the NE or NS memory. Configuration Management, within the context of this document, includes the provisioning and data management functions necessary for providing the network and subscriber services supported by an NE or NS and for maintaining the quality of these services.

REV 01 Removed Section 6.7, Software Management, which was later incorporated into a new document, GR-2963.

Revision 2 includes the following changes: The Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) overview has been expanded and revised to focus on Configuration Management and Service Provisioning. The Open Standards Interfaces section has been revised to identify emerging TMN Q3 interface protocol alternatives (e.g., CORBA). An advisory outline of the Y2K requirements for CM is included as Section 6.10. References are made to Specific Y2K requirements for CM that are described in GR-2945.
