ABSTRACT: This document provides the view of Telcordia on generic hardware reliability modeling requirements and field outage performance objectives for LATA (Local Access and Transport Area) switching systems. The reliability requirements apply to LATA end office and tandem switching systems, both Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and non-ISDN.

Issue 1 of this document included material dealing with field reliability measurement and reporting for switching systems. Similar material is contained in GR-929-CORE, Reliability and Quality Measurements for Telecommunications Systems (RQMS). Issue 2 of GR-512 reflects a return to the document's historic purpose of providing reliability requirements and objectives that LATA switching systems are expected to be able to meet. The overlapping material presented in GR-929 has been removed from Issue 2.

The following documents were fully or partly replaced by GR-512: TA-NWT-000512, TR-TSY-000512, TR-TSY-000512-SUP01, TR-TSY-000509, TR-NWT-001047, TR-NWT-001047-SUP01, and SR-TSY-000963.
