ABSTRACT: Issue 2 of GR-533, LSSGR: Database Services Service Switching Points - Toll-Free Service (FSD 31-01-000), replaces Issue 1.

Service Switching Point (SSP) functionality enables switching systems to interface with telephone company databases, using Signaling System Number 7 (SS7), to implement Intelligent Network services. Two separate and distinct versions of SSP functionality are available for deployment in the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) network. One form of SSP functionality, which is the subject of this set of requirements, is commonly referred to as Intelligent Network 1 (IN/1) SSP functionality. The other form of SSP functionality, commonly referred to as Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) SSP functionality, is defined in other requirements documents.

IN/1 SSP functionality is deployed in LEC switching systems to implement LEC Number Services and LEC Outgoing Call Management Services. LEC Number Services are a group of services that provide inward call management features to the recipient of the call and require special numbers to be dialed. These special numbers are recognized by the network and used to determine call treatment such as routing and billing. Outgoing Call Management Services include services that require a database query to determine the calling party's desired call treatment. This document defines IN/1 SSP functionality required to implement Toll-Free Service. Additional IN/1 SSP functionality required to support Outgoing Call Management Services is defined in a separate requirements document.

This document defines the SSP functionality required to support the processing of toll-free calls. TR-NWT-000533, Issue 3, contained up-to-date requirements needed to support 800 Database Service, resulting in a collection of requirements that accurately reflected the functionality extensively deployed in the LEC networks to handle 800 calls. Supplement 1 of the TR described the requirements necessary to support the processing of toll-free calls using dialing sequences of the form SAC/INPA-NXX-XXXX, as well as 800-NXX-XXXX.

GR-533, Issue 1, June 2000, replaced TR-NWT-000533, Issue 3, Supplement 1, but contained no technical changes from that original document. It was issued strictly to conform with the new Telcordia Technologies document format and GR process.
GR-533, Issue 2 incorporates the following:

    • Interactions between Toll-Free Service and Local Number Portability (LNP)
    • Changes resulting from the needs of Payphone Compensation
    • Changes to recording Service Feature Code in the AMA record structure
    • Changes to recording the Service Feature Indicator received in the Service Control Point (SCP) response in a Billing AMA Format (BAF) Module Code
    • Proper references resulting from the evolution from 3-digit to 4-digit Carrier Identification Codes (CICs), including CIC Expansion Indicator
    • Miscellaneous technical clarifications
    • Standard requirements format and terminology.

    GR-533 replaced TR-NWT-000533 and TR-TSY-000024.
