ABSTRACT: Issue 2 of GR-610, LSSGR: Message Detail Recording (MDR) FSD 02-02-1110, replaces Issue 1, and its revisions.

The Message Detail Recording (MDR) feature provides a customer with detailed information on the customer's use of telecommunications facilities and features. The primary user of MDR information is the business customer who subscribes to the service. MDR has evolved to become an umbrella term to describe the recording of usage information for features such as account codes, authorization codes, queuing, Automatic Route Selection (ARS), facility restriction, private facility access, etc. In the past, this feature has also been termed Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR).

There are two methods for providing MDR data to the customer:

    • Message Detail Recording via the Revenue Accounting Office (MDR-RAO)
    • Message Detail Recording to the Customer's Premises (MDR-CP).
Message Detail Recording via the Revenue Accounting Office transmits information to the telephone company Revenue Accounting Office (RAO) in the same data stream as the Automatic Message Accounting (AMA) billing records for the switching system. As the RAO processes the received data stream, the MDR information is separated from the billing records and forwarded to the customer.

In Message Detail Recording to the Customer's Premises (MDR-CP), the switching system that serves the call forwards the MDR data for the call directly to the customer on a data link or its equivalent.

This document describes and defines the Telcordia view of the MDR service that shall be provided by switching systems. By so doing, this GR becomes basic information for the MDR feature.

This document is not the only document that contains requirements needed to provide MDR. The following documents contain requirements on capabilities needed for providing MDR: TR-TSY-000867, GR-1100, GR-615, GR-385, GR-1343, GR-508, GR-2820, and GR-2822.

Issue 2 of GR-610-CORE has been issued strictly to conform with the new Telcordia document format and GR process. All previous revisions have been incorporated into this GR.

    GR-610 replaced TR-TSY-000610 and TR-TSY-000620.

    GR-600, GR-601, GR-602, GR-603, GR-604, GR-605, GR-610, GR-620, GR-621 and GR-632 replaced TR-TSY-000523.

    When using GR-610, you may need to refer to GR-385, GR-508, GR-615, TR-TSY-000867, GR-1100, GR-1343, GR-2820, and/or GR-2822. You may also want to refer to GR-1298.
