Telephone calls that are not completed as desired usually terminate in recorded announcements or call progress tones. Automated call disposition devices need to recognize these announcements and tones for quality assessment and quality control uses. However, automated detection devices cannot distinguish recorded voice from a live voice answer unless a machine-detectable signal is included with the recorded announcement. Special Information Tones (SITs) are used to identify network-provided announcements and are also used to alert the calling customer that a machine-generated announcement follows. This GR describes the view of Telcordia on generic requirements for SITs. The revision deletes the text regarding the requirement for recorded announcement speech level and the method of measurement.
