ABSTRACT: This document provides requirements for single fiber optical splicing, both mechanical splices and fusion splices. Both active alignment (or core alignment) and passive alignment fusion splicing are considered.

This document contains criteria governing the ability of fusion splicing equipment to assemble complete splices, including protection devices, but does not contain criteria for the fusion splice protectors themselves.
