ORDERING INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: Issue 1 of GR-937, Generic Requirements for Outdoor and Indoor Building Entrance Terminals (BETs), replaces TR-NWT-000937. This
document has been updated to include revisions to the criteria and test procedures to reflect the key learnings of best practices
developed since the TR was issued in 1993.
This document contains proposed criteria that identifies the generic requirements for Outdoor Building Entrance Terminals (OBETs)
and Indoor Building Entrance Terminals (IBETs) equipped with protector units. An outdoor or indoor BET provides the interface between
the outside plant entrance cable and the building cables. GR-937 also provides specifications for cost-effective protection against
electrical damage, provides a service capability consistent with typical client company quality of service objectives for telephone
service, and covers both BETs and BET Network Interface Devices (NIDs).
The GR-937 criteria and test circuits analyze equipment with respect to the following:
- Compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations
- Compatibility with typical client company facilities
- Potential safety hazards
- Performance characteristics
- Susceptibility to failure under environmental conditions.
This document is useful to manufacturers of outdoor or indoor BETs who need these proposed requirements to meet minimum quality
of service objectives for a typical Telcordia Client Company.
