ABSTRACT: This document provides the view of Telcordia on generic requirements for a set of generic messages to convey Configuration Management (CM) information between switching Network Elements (NEs) and a CM Operations System (OS). The information is intended to support CM functions in the NEs, and to allow NEs to interface directly with a CM OS.

This GR also presents an overall discussion of Telcordia generic requirements for the Open Systems Interconnection/Common Management Information Service a Element (OSI/CMISE) information model of system management interface between OS's and switching NEs. The system management interface uses all seven layers of the OSI Reference Model. The information and associated service set are used by the application layer as the basis for operations communication. The managed objects explicitly presented in this issue are limited to the Common Channel Signaling fragment of the information model. Other fragments recommended by standards are referenced.
