    ABSTRACT: This document replaces TR-TSY-000188.

This Technical Reference (TR) describes the Telcordia view of generic requirements for construction of plugged cable stubs. It includes materials of construction for cables and tests used to determine the performance of the plugging and cable bonding system. The plugged cable stub is spliced on each end into the cable plant. The stub is commonly used as a transition from underground to aerial plant.

The plugged cable stub is used to pneumatically isolate two sections of plant. It may be used between pressurized and non-pressurized or two non-pressurized cables of varying construction. The cable study types are as follows:

    • The 10A1 cable stub contains an air plug and is fully color-coded 24-gauge PIC cable with an ALPETH sheath.
    • The 10B1 cable stub contains an air plug and is fully color-coded 24- or 26-gauge PIC cable with a PASP sheath. The 10B1 cable stub is intended for use in areas where protection against gophers or lightning is required.
    • The 10C1 cable stub contains an air plug and is fully color-coded 22-gauge expanded polypropylene cable with an ARPAP sheath. The 10C1 cable stub is intended for use in maintenance offices and intermediate powering stations of the T2 Carrier System.
    • The 10E1 stub is similar to the 10B1 except for the use of Bonded STALPETH BKMZ (24 ga) or BKTZ (26 ga) cable. This cable is a special order material.
    • The 12B1 cable stub contains an air plug and is a noncolor-coded PIC cable with a PASP sheath. The 12B1 cable stub is intended for use with the Reenterable in Cable Splice (RICS) Systems.
    • The 12E1 stub is similar to the 12B1 except for the use of Bonded STALPETH XXMZ (24 ga) or XXTZ (26 ga) cable. This cable is a special order material.
