This Technical Reference (TR) outlines the generic requirements for wire connectors. These connectors employ insulation displacement technology to allow the efficient splicing of telephone cable conductors without stripping the insulation. Discrete (single wire) connectors can splice 2 or 3 wires, whereas modular (multipair) connectors can splice up to 25 wire pairs simultaneously.

Options are available for half-tapping and bridging. These connectors are widely used in aerial, buried, and underground construction.
