Surge-protected terminal blocks provide the interface between the service provider's distribution cable and the customer's service wire. They are provided with a stub cable, which is field spliced to the distribution cable, and are designed to allow the termination of one or more customer service pairs. Each termination is equipped with a replaceable voltage-limiting protection device, which provides a path to ground if a terminated wire or the distribution cable is subjected to lightning or high-voltage power. The downstream customer and the upstream service provider's equipment are intended to be protected by this device.
