Surge-protected terminal blocks provide the interface between the service provider's distribution cable and the customer's service
wire. They are provided with a stub cable, which is field spliced to the distribution cable, and are designed to allow the termination
of one or more customer service pairs. Each termination is equipped with a replaceable voltage-limiting protection device, which
provides a path to ground if a terminated wire or the distribution cable is subjected to lightning or high-voltage power. The
downstream customer and the upstream service provider's equipment are intended to be protected by this device.
This Technical Reference (TR) provides the view of Telcordia on generic engineering and technical requirements for surge
protected terminal blocks incorporating screw-in voltage-limiting devices.
