ABSTRACT: The Intelligent Workstation System (IWSS) is a system to supplement and/or replace existing position equipment used by human operators to provide operator services. The IWSS would take advantage of advances in workstation technology and Telcordia generic requirements for an interface to the Operator Services System (OSS) switch to help increase a Local Exchange Carrier's (LEC's) flexibility in procuring position equipment and the LECs ability to develop new operator services independently of the OSS switch development process.

This Technical Reference (TR) provides the view of Telcordia on generic requirements for the interface between the IWSS and the OSS switch. It includes generic requirements for the application layer protocol, lower layer interface options, and maintenance messaging needed to support the interface.
