ABSTRACT: This Technical Reference (TR) presents the view of Telcordia on detailed generic requirements for enhanced Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) message trapping capabilities. The objective of these capabilities is to provide Local Exchange Carriers (LECs) and other service providers with an improved set of SS7 message trapping functions that can be used to assist in detecting and resolving of Common Channel Signaling (CCS) network maintenance problems.

This document provides functional requirements that allow CCS network maintenance personnel to specify one or more sets of SS7 message trapping criteria that may be used by a CCS node, signaling node adjunct, or external signaling link monitoring device to trap SS7 messages.

Those SS7 messages that have signaling message data that match the specified SS7 message trapping date will be logged and available for review by CCS network maintenance personnel.
