ABSTRACT: This Technical Reference (TR) provides the Telcordia view of requirements and objectives (criteria) for Optical Wave Reflectometers (OCWRs) used to measure reflection in fiber optic components and networks.

These generic requirements and objectives serve to promote satisfactory operation and functionality of OCWRs in the environment of a hypothetical Local Exchange Carrier (LEC). Other common names in use for OCWRs include optical return loss and back reflection meters. The document includes requirements and objectives, and performance tests to compare OCWRs against the stated requirements and objectives.
